About the Country Ambulance Service
St John Ambulance in Western Australia covers the largest area of any single ambulance service in the world – 2,525,500 square kilometres or 33% of the total landmass of Australia.
There are 160 St John Ambulance locations operating in country WA stretching from Christmas Island to Albany, Esperance, Eucla and Wyndham.
The area is serviced by over 2000 dedicated volunteer ambulance officers and 70 paramedics, who travel in excess of 1.6 million kilometres within the country area annually, transporting over 32,000 people.

Volunteering and the Country Ambulance Service
For an Ambulance service to survive in small communities they rely heavily on volunteers and support from the community as a whole including its businesses.
A country service has to be sole supportive and is responsible for the day to day running of their fleet and facilities. This includes Purchasing Vehicles, Maintaining and Servicing them, Uniforms, Medical Supplies, Equipment and any other running costs associated with this.
Donations, Memberships and Kit sales are vital to keep this service operating at its current level. It costs thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain ambulances and lifesaving equipment. By becoming an Ambulance member or purchasing kits & supplies through your local Sub-Centre you are helping to meet these costs and assisting with the ongoing improvement and expansion of these services.
