Planning

Thriving communities require a blend of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.

In the Shire of Ravensthorpe, the Planning department plays a crucial role by overseeing the location and nature of construction and development, regulating land use across the Shire, and ensuring that new subdivisions integrate essential facilities.

These measures collectively contribute to sustaining a pleasant living and working environment for the entire community.

Decisions regarding planning are rooted in the Shire of Ravensthorpe’s Local Planning Scheme No. 6 and often involve consultations with the community, Council, and relevant State Government departments.

Successful planning approval typically comes with a set of conditions that must be fulfilled.

Amending the Planning Scheme

If a specific land use is not permitted within the existing Planning Scheme, the Council may consider amending it to accommodate diverse uses. The process of amending the Planning Scheme involves careful consideration of various factors. In general, the Council must be convinced that:

  1. An explanatory report clearly articulating the proposed changes is prepared.

  2. Environmental impacts are thoroughly assessed, and the social and economic implications have been adequately addressed.

It is important to note that any proposed amendments to the Planning Scheme will incur a corresponding fee. This fee must be settled before the matter undergoes determination

Please refer to planning Fees and Charges for details.
