Responsibilities of all landowners and property managers include: Regularly inspecting properties for signs of pest infestations and taking prompt action to control them Implementing appropriate pest control measures such as baiting, trapping, biological control, and chemical treatments as necessary. Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) DPIRD is responsible for providing technical expertise, research, and support to assist landowners and communities in managing pests effectively. Under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act) the Government of Western Australia raises a Declared Pest Rate from landholders in specific areas, and matches the funds raised from the rate dollar-for-dollar. The combined funds are made available to recognised biosecurity groups who provide support to landholders to manage widespread and established declared pests. In the Shire of Ravensthorpe it is the Southern Biosecurity Group that coordinates the control of declared pests and species.
