Contaminated recycling bins

Kerbside waste and recycling contractor Cleanaway has advised the Shire of Ravensthorpe that several recycling bins were contaminated recently.

Shire of Ravensthorpe Chief Executive Officer Matthew Bird said while most Shire residents are recycling correctly, the few who are contaminating their bins are putting the future of recycling collection at risk.

"Used nappies, food waste and clothes do not belong in the recycling bin," he said.

"The waste facility in Esperance could refuse to receive any recycling from the Shire of Ravensthorpe if this continues.”

Bins to be inspected

To help educate the community on how to recycle the right way, in the coming weeks all recycling bins will be inspected on collection day.

Any bins with incorrect items placed inside will not be collected by Cleanaway.

Instead, they will be tagged with a sticker explaining why they were not collected and follow up inspections will be performed.

What can you recycle?

Information on what can be recycled is detailed here and will also be on display at the Shire's information stand at the markets.
