The grand opening of the Ravensthorpe Cultural Precinct took place on Monday 11 September 2023 and it was wonderful to see so many members of the community come out to celebrate.
It was a lovely warm Spring afternoon and guests were treated to a beautiful performance of Waltzing Matilda by the Ravensthorpe Primary Choir and music from Paige Valentine.
Andy Chapman from the Ravensthorpe Historical Society spoke about the history of the site and Honorary Freeman of the Shire and former Shire President Ian Goldfinch, who was heavily involved in the project from the beginning, joined Shire President Keith Dunlop on stage to officially open the precinct.
The new precinct caters to locals and tourists alike, while working in tandem with the region’s strong mining industry. This can be seen in the Allkem funded interpretive centre, featuring state of the art technology, which will be a fantastic drawcard for visitors.
The Shire of Ravensthorpe now has a unique and beautiful cultural precinct that stands out on the main street and that by design, brings community together. And that is a testament to what a remote, regional community can do.
