The Shire of Ravensthorpe acknowledges the Western Australian Government's announcement today of the formal creation of the South Coast Marine Park, which will extend from Bremer Bay to the South Australian border.
The government released the official zoning scheme which will take effect from late 2026, and also highlighted the park's potential to deliver business and tourism opportunities to the region.
Shire President Tom Major said the Shire is committed to exploring new opportunities.
“Now the decision has been made and the marine park is going ahead we’ll be working hard to find out what opportunities exist for us,“ he said. “For example, marine charters out of Hopetoun and the infrastructure needed to make that happen, such as a boat pen marina.”

The Shire will work closely with the WA Government, local businesses and stakeholders to maximise these opportunities, ensuring that tourism growth aligns with conservation goals and community values.
