PUBLIC NOTICE
BUSH FIRES ACT 1954
PART III PREVENTION OF BUSH FIRES
SECTION 18 - COMMENCEMENT OF RESTRICTED BURNING TIME
Pursuant to Section 18 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 the Shire of Ravensthorpe advises Restricted Burning Time will commence Thursday, 1 February 2024.
Landowner/occupiers MUST obtain a fire permit from their nearest Fire Control Officer before any hazard reduction or burning off can commence.
The Shire's Chief Bush Fire Control Officer, Mr Rodney Daw has exercised his powers to restrict the issuing of fire permits to the following criteria;
- Fire permits are to be withheld until Monday 5 February 2024
- Fire permits will be issued for agricultural purposes only;
- No fire permits will be issued for burning of tree piles; and,
- Permit holders must abide by all other conditions prescribed by the issuing Fire Control Officer or Fire Weather Officer; and
- Permit holders must log their burns with the DFES Communications Centre Ph: 1800 198 140 (Free call) prior to igniting.
Permit holders are reminded under the new Australian Fire Danger Rating System all permits will be deemed invalid when the Fire Danger Rating reaches ‘HIGH’ or above. The onus is on the permit holder to check the Bureau of Meteorology website for the day’s fire danger rating prior to burning.
If the day’s fire danger rating is ‘HIGH’ and weather conditions are suitable for burning, permit holders can get in contact with the nearest Fire Weather Officer to review conditions and the Officer may provide an exemption to that permit.
Please note fire permits can be suspended or cancelled at any time by any Fire Control Officer based upon local conditions or forecast weather conditions.
Mathew Bird
Chief Executive Officer
