Rod Daw was celebrated at a special ceremony in Ravensthorpe yesterday where he was presented with a medal for his 67 years of service by Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm.
Last week Rod resigned as Chief Bush Fire Control Officer (CBFCO) for the Shire of Ravensthorpe after 50 years in the role.
Commissioner Klemm spoke highly of Rod and said the medal was the first of its kind in Western Australia.

The ceremony was well attended by members of Rod’s family, the Shire’s Fire Control Officers and bushfire volunteers, councillors and invited guests from the community.
During his thank you speech Rod gave credit to his wife Lyn for her support over the decades.
“Thanks to Lyn who assisted me with so many fires over the years and also put up with me attending the never-ending meetings,” he said.
“I also want to thank my Fire Control Officers and volunteers, they are an outstanding group who I am very grateful for and I am proud to call them my friends.”
The Shire of Ravensthorpe would like to thank all who attended and made this event so special for Rod and Lyn.
